Are christians allowed to celebrate halloween?

I get this question a lot. Usually, it’s people who are just coming out of the world or those who have recently felt convicted about their idolatry surrounding the pagan traditions. Halloween is probably the easiest to tackle in most cases, so that’s where they begin.

For some reason most people find it easier to put down than the equally pagan christmas and easter.

But that simple question has a pretty big answer. Well, if you want to be biblical, that is.

Now, to be fair, scripture does not come right out and name halloween. Then again, it doesn’t come right out and name christmas and easter but many Christians still twist scripture to support that.

But I’m not a scripture twister. I am going to tell you the truth – even if it is unpleasant.

I’d rather offend you with the truth than harm you with a lie.

Allowed? Are christains allowed to celebrate halloween? It depends on if you are living according to the Bible or not. If you are trying to live biblically, then no, the Bible prohibits this type of activity for believers. Those who are abiding in Yeshua and walking as He walked want nothing to do with the darkness that surrounds halloween (or they shouldn’t want it).

Now, if you are living for the world, then you don’t have that biblical restriction.

So, if that’s the case then why do Christians celebrate halloween?

Your guess is as good as mine. I have some theories though:

  • They aren’t as committed to Yehovah as they believe
  • They aren’t as committed to Yehovah as they would like others to believe
  • They don’t know what the Bible says about darkness
  • They don’t care that the Bible prohibits communing with darkness
  • They don’t understand that any celebration on that day, “Christian” or otherwise, is still participating
  • They are spiritually immature
  • They want to do what they want to do and no one is going to tell them otherwise

What Does the Bible Say About Halloween?

When I tell someone that halloween is not a Christian holiday and is in fact just the opposite, the first thing I get is, “Well, do you have any Bible for that?”

Pfft! Do I have Bible for that? Don’t be absurd! Of course I do! I have plenty of verses that tell Christians to stay away from things like halloween.

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Ephesians 5:11

Not convinced? Here’s another.

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

2 Corinthians 6:14

But wait! There’s more!

Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

1 Corinthians 10:21

How much Bible do you want cause I can do this all day (the “chapter and verse” people can’t stand me).

When you choose to celebrate halloween you are yoking yourself with that darkness, that spirit. It doesn’t matter what your intention is. It doesn’t matter that you are trying to christianize it.

You can’t make it right because God said it is wrong.

And He is not going to sanctify what He has called declared to be corrupt and told us to avoid.

Friendship with the World Makes us Enemies of God

Halloween is a worldly holiday. How do we know this? Because it is not in the Bible. We are not commanded to keep it.

But you know what we are commanded to keep?

The feast days. Those are the true biblical holidays and God said we are to keep them forever.

And I’ll give you a hint. Christmas and Easter are NOT in there!

You can read all about them in Leviticus 23.

If you want to learn how to keep them, how to walk as Yeshua walked, and how to be holy as God is holy, contact us. We’ll meet with you and help you understand what your Bible really says.

You can also check out TOA’s YouTube channel and our Feast Days Playlist (that we are still building).

Word of warning though. It uncovers a lot of lies – a LOT.

Back to halloween though. Did you know there is absolutely no difference between halloween and Christmas or halloween and easter? None. Nada. Zip.

They are all pagan traditions. They are all of the world and scripture says that being a friend of the world makes you an enemy of God.

It also makes you an adulterer.

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

James 4:4

We are not supposed to be of the world – like, at all.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Romans 12:2

We were called out of the world. We are not supposed to have anything to do with it. We are supposed to put down our worldly things and follow Yehovah.

FYI that includes putting down the pagan traditions like christmas and easter too. He wants ALL of us.

How is Halloween Christian?

It isn’t. There is no part of halloween that is Christian – nor are the fall festivals, trunk or treat, haunted hay rides, or any of the other “workarounds” and loopholes that Christians come up with to celebrate the day.

God gave us days that HE wants us to celebrate. That is the way HE wants us to worship Him. When you do it your own way, you are spitting in His eye and telling Him that you don’t care what HE wants. It’s only about what YOU want.

It doesn’t work like that though. Keep it up and judgment day will be full of unpleasant surprises.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Matthew 7:21-23

So many gloss over this, blind to their own disobedience. You don’t have to break one of the Ten Commandments to find yourself in that place and hear His say those words to you.

God does not compromise. He wants all of us.

One generation’s compromise is the next generation’s destruction.

Any disobedience can get you there. He wants your obedience. He told us that if we love Him we will obey Him.

Well, do you love Him?

Do you love Him enough to be obedient?

Do you love Him enough to crucify your flesh, shed the world, and walk as He walked?

Do you?
