On Friday, August 14, 2026, we will likely be able to sight the sliver of the new moon that marks the beginning of the 6th Biblical month.

In the book of Exodus, the 40-day period beginning on the first day of the sixth month marks a critical moment of grace after Israel’s devastating betrayal with the Golden Calf.

Prior to this, Moses had broken the first set of stone tablets in righteous anger, destroying the golden calf, and intensely interceded for the lives of the people (Exodus 32). Recognizing that the original covenant had been shattered, the Almighty commanded Moses to chisel out two new stone tablets, identical to the first, and to climb back up Mount Sinai alone (Exodus 34). When Moses ascended the mountain on this day, he entered a 40-day period of fasting and prayer, standing in the breach to secure a formal renewal of the covenant and to seek God’s manifest mercy for a fickle nation.

As Moses remained hidden on the mountain, Israel waited below in a state of solemn anticipation, internalizing the gravity of their sin and preparing their hearts to return to their Creator. This 40-day ascent bridges the gap between the seasons, carrying the camp of Israel out of the sixth month, past the awakening blasts of Yom Teruah (the Day of Shouting/Trumpets) on the first day of the seventh month. (Leviticus 23).

On the tenth day of the seventh month, Moses finally descended Mount Sinai, carrying the intact second set of stone tablets. This physical evidence proved that God had completely forgiven Israel, fully restored the covenant, and granted them absolute atonement. This historical day of reconciliation established the date for Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), transforming Moses’s 40-day journey into a blueprint for biblical repentance and spiritual restoration.

“I currently reside in Sebastian, Florida with my two cats. Born at West Point, I spent my early years on Army bases across Kansas, Germany, Kentucky, and Virginia.
Raised Catholic, I’d never heard of the Holy Ghost, but at age 12, God filled me with His Spirit, evidenced by speaking in tongues! At 15 in Florida, a street preacher shared Acts 2:38, and I was buried in the only Name whereby we must be saved.
As a young adult, I participated in an incredible revival ministry where many obeyed the gospel.
But there’s more!
Yehovah later called me into the deeper truths of the Sabbath and Feasts. I’m amazed by how Yehovah has guided my life and so grateful to be part of Torah Observant Apostolics and the beautiful ministry of Elder and Sister Mayberry. I’m excited to see what He has planned for us!”
