“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Messiah will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17
On Yom Teruah
On Yom Teruah—the Feast of Trumpets—the atmosphere changes. The air is charged with a holy anticipation. In ancient Israel, the blast of the shofar was a multi-layered signal: it was a wake-up call to the sleeping soul, an alarm of approaching battle, and the glorious declaration that the King was ascending His throne.
Yom Teruah is a prophetic rehearsal. It is a sensory preview of the greatest event in human history.
The Voice of the Bridegroom
When you hear the shofar blast, hear the voice of the Bridegroom. The Bible tells us that Yeshua will return to the sound of the Shofar HaGadol (the Last Trumpet). That final, historic blast will shatter the silence of the ages. It will wake those sleeping in the dust and gather believers from every corner of the earth.
This feast reminds us that our faith is not just anchored in the past at the Cross, but urgently pulling us toward our future at the Throne.
His First Coming:
Yeshua came as the suffering servant—a lamb led to the slaughter.
His Second Coming:
Yom Teruah points us to His return as the roaring Lion of Judah, the King of Kings, establishing His righteous kingdom on earth.
A Call to Readiness
As we stand on the threshold of the Ten Days of Awe leading to Yom Kippur, the shofar pleads with us to look inward. It asks three vital questions:
- Are your garments clean?
- Is your lamp filled with oil?
- Are you living in light of His return?
Today, we rejoice in the salvation we already possess through Yeshua, while eagerly straining our ears for the trumpet that changes everything.
A Prayer for Yom Teruah
Abba Father, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, thank You for the beautiful gift of Your appointed times. As we celebrate the Feast of Trumpets, awaken our hearts to a deeper level of readiness. Forgive us for the ways we have allowed the noise of this world to drown out Your still, small voice.
Yeshua, I thank You that our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life through Your blood. I look to the skies with joy and anticipation, knowing that Your return is closer today than it was yesterday. Give me the strength and boldness to share Your gospel, so that when that last trumpet sounds, many more will hear it with joy and not fear. Let my life be a sweet-sounding instrument that honors You as King.
In Yeshua’s mighty name,
Amen, amen!
Shalom
